25/08/2022 By Frank O’Kelly in Products Crystallines, Manufacturing, Syrups

Ragus manufactures bulk syrup and crystalline sugars for industrial customers in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. Our syrups and crystallines are used in a wide variety of applications including baking, confectionary, soft drinks and in beers and ciders.

As sugar suppliers, we test and measure the distinct properties of cane and beet sugar products prior to bulk production via laboratory analysis. All our pure sugar products undergo rigorous quality control, to guarantee Ragus customers consistency and quality in the bulk syrups and crystalline sugars we supply.

Ragus responsibly sources sugarcane and beet sugar from approved suppliers in Europe, Africa, South America and the Pacific region. Our focus is on procuring reliable and sustainably produced cane and beet sugar. We maintain a complete audit trail of our manufactured pure sugar products, starting with the sourcing of sugar and including progression through mill or refinery, Ragus factory manufacture and delivery.

Types of bulk sugars available

Manufactured from responsibly sourced cane and beet sugars, our range of bulk syrups are produced for industrial-scale production of food, beverage and pharmaceutical products.

Golden syrup: Functioning similarly to our other invert syrups, golden syrup imparts a caramelised taste and distinct amber tinge to products. Ragus is a global golden syrup supplier.

Invert sugar syrups: Available in different varieties including full and partial invert syrups, this product features a low viscosity and high level of sweetness and is often used as a humectant.

Black treacle: This thick, dark-coloured syrup is prized for its smooth and full-bodied flavour that includes a hint of bitterness. Black treacle is commonly used in both sweet and savoury products.

Liquid sugar: Liquid sugar is a water-based sucrose solution. Bulk liquid sugar is easy to add during production, and helps manufacturers streamline their production processes.

Bulk sugars frequently asked questions

Here are answers to common queries the Ragus team receives regarding bulk sugar supply and use.

Are my volume requirements too small for you to supply?

Minimum order quantities (MOQs) are generally 2 tonnes.

Do you only supply sugar and syrup in bulk formats?

Ragus manufactures bulk sugar products for industry. Golden syrup, treacle, invert sugar syrup and liquid sugar are available in IBCs and bulk tankers. Pails may be available depending on volume and location.

Ragus’ pure sugar products are manufactured using both beet sugar and cane sugar.

Is there a difference between beet sugar and cane sugar?

Chemically speaking, these two products are identical once the refining process is fully completed. Both types of sugar can be used in the production of Ragus’ liquid sugar, golden and invert syrups.

For some syrups, production uses a by-product of the sugar refining process, such as when creating cane molasses. This sees the juice from sugar cane boiled to produce a concentrated syrup, with a third and final boiling producing cane molasses. Black treacle, by comparison, involves two boiling stages that are followed by the separation of crystallised sucrose using a centrifuge, resulting in a product that retains the essential nutrients found in the original sugar cane juice.
